Junior Achievement -
Leadership Poster Series

Design Objective

The organization required a series of posters for an educational program at their nationwide facilities. This series aimed to teach children about historical moments, innovators, and leaders, comparing them to contemporary figures. The project required both graphic design and original illustration, and all creative decisions were entrusted to me as the sole designer.

Challenges and Process

Creating this poster series involved numerous corporate meetings and stages before the final set was approved for nationwide distribution. I chose a red, white, and blue color palette to maintain a patriotic theme. The concept involved a split comparison between the past and present, so I divided the canvas diagonally to create movement, using the top section for the past and the bottom for the present.

The unique composition posed a challenge for placing the main headers. I resolved this by formatting the headers along the central split, creating a visually engaging focal point. Each poster featured consistent section headers with varying body copy for each section. I used ribbons to display the section headers, disappearing behind each illustration to give the illusion of depth. To keep the posters fun for a younger audience, I warped the text boxes slightly.

The most challenging part was illustrating the present-day leaders, which required multiple styles and versions to find the right fit for the project and audience. For a final touch, I added background images related to each section, using blending modes and opacity to keep them subtle and recede out of focus.
